A female Red Breasted Nuthatch came into the pilothouse. They are common along the Inside Passage and sometimes take a rest on passing vessels. They are often seen walking DOWN trees. See that long claw in the back? That is her hallux claw. It is significantly longer than that on most birds her size. For the Nuthatch, the hallux hooks into the bark and allows her to go down the tree and place seeds, etc. in crevices of the bark.
